Olare Mara Kempinski
The Kempinski brand needs no introduction and is doubtless synonymous with luxury hotels. What may need a bit of an introduction is Olare Mara Kempinski which is a luxury tented camp in the Masai Mara. Noteworthy is that it is not just another camp in the greater Masai Mara Game Reserve but is a hidden gem on the private 32,900-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Olare Mara Kempinski endeavors to deliver an exclusive and authentic bush and safari experience. However, do not let its setting fool you. Inside the tents is a host of luxurious accommodation facilities that would rival any beach resort or hotel in a major capital city.
Olare Mara Kempinski has just 12 tents and can only accommodate a total of 24 people at a time. This is due in part to Olare Motorogi Conservancy’s policies that seek to cap the number of visitors at the conservancy at any given time. This allows for a much higher quality safari experience. All the same, such a policy inadvertently serves to further the exclusivity of Olare Mara Kempinski.
The tents are raised to allow for panoramic views of the plains surrounding the Ntiakitiak River. Surrounding the tents are wrap-around deck style verandahs. Inside the tents are ensuite bathrooms, working desks, separate living area and bedroom, and a powder room – I guess one has to look good for the animals. Beds come either as king-size or twin beds depending on one’s preference. Finally, there are three categories of the Edwardian hunting safari tents to choose from namely Deluxe Tents, the Exclusive Suite, and the Honeymoon Suite.
One does not go all the way to the Mara just to sleep in luxury tents. Olare Mara offers real game action among other things. Enjoy exhilarating game drives in the conservancy and see all that the Mara has to offer. For a different game viewing experience, hot air balloon safaris are available. If nothing else, hot air balloon safaris should definitely be on your safari bucket list. If one wants to get up close to the action then guided walking safaris are also offered. Other activities include horse riding.
The dining experience at Olare Mara Kempinski goes beyond the delicious cuisines served at the camp. Bush dinners are a feature of the camp’s dining experience and are set under the starry night sky surrounded by the distant roaring of lions and laughing of hyenas. Perfectly safe nonetheless.
Olare Mara Kempinski has a safari-themed dining room. During supper, the dining room is usually candle-lit and is perfect for honeymooners. On a forest glade, only accessible by a timbered bridge is a tented bar that also features a campfire. Therefore, the camp offers a 360 degrees dining experience from meals to drinks and camping-like experience with its campfire and bush dinners.
Our Final Say
What else is left to stay? Olare Mara Kempinski definitely inspires some wanderlust. Although the camp features on the more expensive side of camps in the Mara it is worth every coin. Another lodge that is definitely worth every coin is the Sarova Saltlick Game Lodge in Tsavo.
